A Year in Space by George A. Spiteri Page 14            Titov                                                             Manarov Thursday July 7th 1988 Earth resources experiments were conducted. In particular, the forests and plains of the southern part of the European U.S.S.R. were photographed to determine the state of the crops. This was the 200th day in orbit. Friday July 8th 1988 The cosmonauts said they felt well and were determined to carry out their yearlong flight. Saturday July 9th and Sunday July 10th 1988 These were rest days but the crew occupied themselves with physical exercise. Monday July 11th 1988 The crew carried out studies or the earth’s ionosphere and magnetosphere. Tuesday July 12th 1988 Titov and Manarov did astrophysical observations with the help of the Glazar ultra—violet telescope. Wednesday July 13th 1988 Then was a continuation of astrophysical observations. The cosmonauts also conducted visual observations of Southern Siberia after the heavy rains in that area led to critical water levels in rivers. Thursday July 14th 1988 The cosmonauts continued work with the Glazar unit. Friday July 15th 1988 Titov and Manarov had their usual medical check-up. They also took photographs of the Black Sea. They were currently doing a daily survey of the environment and plant life to detect the slightest changes in soil conditions. Saturday July 16th and Sunday July 17th 1988 The crew spent the weekend relaxing as usual. Monday July 18th 1988 Progress 37 was launched at 21:13 GMT. Meanwhile the cosmonauts continued surveying the forest fires in Siberia, which were caused by the recent heat-wave. Tuesday July 19th 1988 The crew prepared for the docking of Progress. Wednesday July 20th 1988 Progress 37 docked with Mir at 20:34 GMT. It brought to the cosmonauts fuel, food, water, mail and necessary equipment to continue the repair work in a future space walk. Thursday July 21st and Friday July 22nd 1988 Titov and Manarov reached the seven-month point in their flight. Both were well and were unloading Progress. Saturday July 23rd and Sunday July 24th 1988 Weekend-off with physical exercises.
