Stamp Profile Space Achievements United States Date of issue May 21, 1981 Issued by the United States on May 21, 1981, this block of eight mint stamps salutes U.S. accomplishments in space and space research. The continuous "Space Achievements" design features an astronaut on the moon, Pioneer 11 and Saturn, Skylab and the sun, the Hubble space telescope, the Space Shuttle in orbit, the Space Shuttle with arm deployed, the Space Shuttle at launch, and the Space Shuttle prior to landing. Moon Landing - 20th Anniversary United States Date of issue July 20, 1969 The 20th anniversary of the July 20, 1969 moon landing is commemorated by this large high face value U.S. priority mail stamp. Issued on July 20, 1989, the stamp design features the raising of the American flag on the lunar surface. Space Exploration Issue United States Date of issue Oct. 1, 1991 This mint ten-stamp booklet pane was issued by the United States Postal Service on Oct. 1, 1991, to commemorate space exploration achievements. The stamps feature unmanned spacecraft launched to the Earth's moon and each of the nine planets that orbit the sun (with the exception of Pluto, which is depicted by a stamp but remains unexplored). Space Accomplishments United States Date of issue 1992 Both the United States and Russia were involved in the design of this block of four mint stamps; Russia concurrently issued a similar set. The American and Russian designers were Robert T. McCall and Vladimir Beilin, respectively. The four stamps form a continuous design that honours a broad spectrum of space exploration achievements by the two countries. The top-left stamp illustrates a Cosmonaut and the U.S. Space Shuttle. The top-right stamp features an Astronaut, Russian Space Station, and Russian Space Shuttle. The bottom-left stamp shows Sputnik, Vostok, and Apollo Command and Lunar Modules. The bottom-right stamp illustrates Soyuz, Mercury, and Gemini Spacecraft.
